The Role of Clinical Trials in Romania’s Healthcare System
On 10th June 2025, the Avantyo Institute of Clinical Research organised a roundtable discussion, bringing together media representatives, clinical research experts, regulatory authorities, and patients. The event aimed to explore strategies for raising awareness in Romanian society regarding the significant impact and benefits of clinical trials, which involve innovative therapies—both for patients and the healthcare system as a whole.
The discussion included representatives from regulatory authorities, such as the President of the National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Romania, members of Romania’s National Bioethics Commission of Medicines and Medical Devices, patient associations, experts from the Innovation Hub, representatives from the Health Ministry, and members of the Association of Companies Conducting Clinical Studies in Romania.
At present, Romania has a signed memorandum, and work is underway on a Romanian-language platform dedicated to patient enrolment in clinical trials, ensuring that vital information will be readily accessible. This platform is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year, offering an essential tool for integrating patients into innovative research initiatives.
The meeting highlighted the need for effective communication in clinical research, emphasising the role of medical professionals in translating complex scientific information into language that is accessible to both patients and the wider public. By fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, the discussion aimed to enhance understanding and engagement with clinical studies, supporting the continued growth of research in Romania.
