The Anatomy of Medical Research

Between May 7 and 8, 2025, the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureș is hosting the "Anatomy of Medical Research" event, a landmark initiative in the field of clinical research in Romania. The main objective of this gathering is to analyze and compare Romanian and international practices in conducting clinical studies, as well as to identify collaboration and development opportunities in this vital field for medical advancement.
The event brings together some of the most important actors in the medical research ecosystem: members of the Romanian Health Innovation Hub, the G6 UMF Alliance, LAWG (Local American Working Group), Cochrane Romania, representatives from the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare authorities, hospital leadership, and prominent international researchers.
A central theme of the discussions is the development and strengthening of clinical studies as a collective effort. The anatomy of medical research implies an integrative vision where collaboration between universities, industry, authorities, and research organizations is essential. Initiatives such as the G6 Alliance, the Innovation Hub—which includes AVANTYO Institute of Clinical Research—and LAWG play a critical role in training and advancing the expertise of professionals involved in clinical studies.
A key strategic topic on the event's agenda is the establishment of Academic Research Organizations (AROs) within Romanian medical universities. These entities aim to strengthen inter-university collaboration, develop research centers of excellence, and build direct partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry and Contract Research Organizations (CROs), thus contributing to the professionalization and internationalization of Romanian medical research.
Among the distinguished participants was Dr. Cristina Florescu Moraid, CEO of the AVANTYO Institute of Clinical Research and President of the Symposium on Clinical Studies in Romania.
