Building Your Academic Medicine Career
Schedule
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The ‘Building Your Academic Medicine Career’ course provides a structured and practical introduction to the academic medical pathway. Designed for young physicians and life science graduates, this programme explains how academic careers are built, how research contributes to medical progress, and what steps are required to establish yourself as a successful academic professional.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of the academic career roadmap – including promotion criteria, research expectations, teaching responsibilities, and the competencies required at each stage. The course also demystifies academic research by explaining how scientific ideas are developed, how research projects are structured, and how early‑career professionals can begin contributing to scientific literature.
Through expert guidance, practical exercises, and real‑world examples, attendees will learn how to identify their research interests, build foundational scientific writing skills, and take the first steps towards publishing their work. The programme is designed to empower participants with the confidence and clarity needed to begin or advance their academic journey.
